The lightning module acts as a surge protector PLUS, it has the boundary loop wire inputs, which protects the transmitter.

It has a PetSafe Unconditional Lifetime Warranty. You can blow it out as often as you have lightning, and PetSafe will warranty it! For secure protection, buy two...as one is being replaced, the other can be installed and in use.

The boundary wire in your yard is like a giant antenna attracting current transmitted through the ground during a lightning strike, even from as much as hundreds of yards away. While the protection built into your home as well as your fence transmitter will provide some protection for surges coming through your household wiring, none of that will stop the surge that comes through the boundary wire. This lightning module is the added protection you need to preserve your equipment.
